Tips for Shipping Smaller Packages

It's easy to take for granted the money and time saving benefits of properly packing smaller items such as glass, ceramics and computer equipment, etc.

Here are some simple tips you can follow to avoid any unforeseen damages.

1. Choose the Right Box. -- We've always emphasized the importance of this and recommend using a new box. Select a box that is large enough to fit the item but will also fit the additional cushioning and packaging materials. Ensure that your box is made of high-quality corrugated cardboard so it won't get damaged in transit.

2. Use plenty of cushioning materials such as bubble wrap, newspaper or foam peanuts. Ensure that whichever material you use, it covers all sides of your item. The contents of the box should not move around and must be packed tightly.

3. When shipping computer equipment, pad well and pack with anti-static treated material such as foam rolls and anti-static peanuts.

4. When shipping glass or ceramic items, make sure to wrap items with cushioning material and consider double-boxing it (adding more cushioning material in between the boxes)

5. Use a heavy-duty packaging tape to properly seal your box. Remember to always use the 'H' method when taping your box: seal across the seam of the box and along the edges. Lastly, make sure you seal the bottom of the box as well.
