Here are some common shipping tips that you might find useful when shipping perishable items.

1. When shipping perishable materials, use overnight services and pack the items with a cooling agent (cold packs, dry ice, etc.). Never use ground shipping for perishables.

2. Note that your packages may not travel straight to its destination and may be routed to various locations first. Thus, your package will get be exposed to the weather of whatever locations it is en route to. Keep this in mind when packing temperature-sensitive items.

3. If you have a valuable item to be shipped, make sure you purchase insurance. UPS, DHL, & FedEx will automatically insure each of your packages for up to $100. Ask your shipper about supplemental insurance.

4. Make sure you check out the list of prohibited items from individual shippers' websites.

5. Be sure to compare shipping options. Ground shipping provides the best value for packages that are not urgent. Priority or 2-day services are good for items which are more urgent. All carriers offer an overnight or express option as well. It's always best to compare the estimated shipping times of all services to get the best deal.
